THE FIRST EMBER
The spark
that began it all
STICKEMBER did not begin with a grand plan. One day, my child came running up to me, beaming, with a stick-figure comic he had drawn.
He could hardly wait to take me through each panel, introducing the characters, their special moves, and their battles. Those simple-looking lines all had names, powers, and stories in his mind. What I saw was more than a few sheets of paper. It was a universe the world had yet to discover, created one stroke at a time by a child's small hands.
In that moment, I wanted to help that world live on. Starting with the stick figures he loved most, and with the assistance of artificial intelligence, I added training, battles, setbacks, and growth. Gradually, the first story in the STICKEMBER world took shape: Elemental World: The Lost Heart of Fire.
I wanted the hero of this story to hold on to his kindness, even after being hurt, mocked, and looked down on, and still choose to stand in front of those more vulnerable than himself. True strength is not measured by how many opponents you defeat. It is the willingness, after knowing darkness yourself, to become a small flame that lights the way for someone else.
I also wanted to tell my child this: you do not have to be strong from the start, and you do not always have to lead the way. Believe in yourself, treasure your imagination, and protect the kindness in your heart. Even the faintest flame can bring light to you and the people beside you.
Although artificial intelligence helped bring STICKEMBER to life, the real spark behind this story was the light in my child's eyes when he drew his very first stick figure.
I dedicate this book to my beloved son. Thank you for entrusting me with the world inside your heart, and for helping me understand that some dreams begin as nothing more than a simple line. If someone is willing to believe in it, that line can become an entire world.
You are the first spark that brought this story to life.
